With security in the focus, TIA authority is migrating towards the Baggage Handling System (BHS) where checked in baggage are x-rayed and checked for security items as secondary check. This facility now allows mandatory security check of all checked in bags that are going to aircraft. This is major step towards improving security for the operating carrier. The primary scanning is done at the gate while passengers enter into the terminal building where as the secondary x-ray takes place after check-in of the baggage.
For any security items found, such as: power bank, lithium batteries, contra-band items, bags are held by the security and only process towards aircraft after the items are removed and proper action taken. Currently, this system has implemented at the side A of the check in for 12 check-in counters and in next phase this work will continue for the side B. With this all 34 check-in counters will migrate to the BHS check-in with possibility of robust secondary check.
