Removal of Threshold Reduction for Parallel Taxiway Construction at TIA (VNKT)

In Kathmandu, Nepal, ongoing efforts to enhance facilities and services at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) include a significant project focused on airside improvements. The construction of a parallel taxiway necessitated a reduction of 236 meters from the existing runway length. This project, initially scheduled from April 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, was completed ahead of the deadline. As of June 19, 2024, the construction work at the north west end has been concluded, and the displaced runway threshold has been restored following the issuance of AIP supplement 09/24.

While future phases of the parallel taxiway construction are in the pipeline, the current work does not impact airport operation parameters.The major phase, slated to begin in November 2024, has been communicated through AIP Supplement 05/24, which notifies all stakeholders of airport closures for construction work from 1000 hrs to 0800 hrs the next day Nepali Standard Time. .
